Competition, giveawayS & Photo Submission Terms

Version: 1st October 2026

These general terms apply to BFB’s free competitions and prize draws. Read them alongside the details published for the particular promotion, which explain the prize, entry method, dates and any specific conditions. Those details form part of the terms and must be available before entry opens.

  1. The promoter is: Blue Ferret Boarding*, based in Crook, County Durham. Our correspondence address is 8 Masefield Crescent, Sunnybrow, CrookDL15 0NW. For competition enquiries, email hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk.
  2. The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 years or over except employees of Blue Ferret Boarding and their close relatives. Hannah and Kyle, anyone directly involved in organising or administering the promotion, and members of their households cannot enter either—soz! For these terms, close relatives means a spouse or partner, parent, child, sibling, grandparent or grandchild. Any different geographical or age restrictions will be clearly stated in the individual promotion’s details before entry opens.
  3. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition. Whoop! You do not need to agree to marketing emails to enter.
  4. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions. Not nearly as scary as it sounds—just making sure everyone knows how it works!
  5. Each promotion will identify its official entry post or other entry route. Its details will state how to enter, the entry limit, eligibility, the number and description of prizes, relevant dates, winner-selection method and any important restrictions. Promotional posts will include the significant conditions and direct you to the full terms.

Only the advertised entry methods count. Comments on shared posts, reminders or other platforms are not entries unless specifically included in the entry instructions.

Unless the individual promotion states otherwise, one entry is allowed per person across all entry methods combined. Additional entries will not increase your chances; only your first valid entry will count. Automated entries and entries submitted on someone else’s behalf are not accepted.

  6. Closing date for entry will be clearly stated on the social media posts and in the individual promotion’s details, including the closing time and time zone. Any opening date will also be stated. After the given date and time, further entries will be ignored when we draw the winner. Harsh but necessary, we’re sure you’ll agree.
  7. Please check that your entry has been submitted through an advertised entry route. BFB will take reasonable steps to collect all valid entries and investigate reported technical problems fairly. We cannot guarantee receipt where a failure outside our reasonable control prevents delivery, but this does not exclude responsibility for our own mistakes or affect your statutory rights.
  8. For competitions involving photographs or other creative work, you must own the entry or have the necessary permission to submit it and allow the uses described in the competition details. Obtain permission from identifiable people pictured, including a parent or guardian where appropriate.

You keep ownership of your work. By entering, you give BFB a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce and display it for administering that competition, any advertised public voting, and reporting its results.

Any additional use—for example in a calendar, merchandise or unrelated advertising—will be explained expressly in the competition-specific terms before entry or agreed with you separately. Entering a giveaway does not, by itself, give BFB permission to use photographs from your social media account for publicity. Photographs deliberately submitted as competition entries are covered by the permissions explained above and in the individual competition’s terms.

For photo competitions, do still show us your fuzzbutt’s best profile!

  9. BFB will only change, suspend or cancel a promotion where exceptional circumstances beyond our reasonable control make this necessary. We will explain any changes promptly through the original promotional channels and this terms page, and take reasonable steps to avoid disadvantaging entrants.

A closing date will only change where unavoidable circumstances beyond our control make this necessary and keeping the original date would be unfair, or entrants would not be disadvantaged by the change. Low entry numbers are not a reason to extend a giveaway.

  10. BFB is responsible for administering its promotions and ensuring its published prize information is accurate, including where another organisation supplies the prize. If you see conflicting information, contact hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk so we can clarify it and correct any error promptly.
  11. The prize is as stated and winners cannot request a cash alternative. Any restrictions on transferring or using a prize will be stated before entry.

BFB will award the advertised prize. If circumstances beyond our reasonable control make that impossible, we will explain the situation and provide a reasonable equivalent of equal or greater value. We will not rely on “subject to availability” to avoid awarding a prize.

  12. The winner-selection method will be stated before the promotion opens:
    • Random prize draws: winners will be selected from all valid entries using a computer process that produces verifiably random results, or by an independent person or under independent supervision. BFB will retain evidence of the draw.
    • Judged competitions: the judging criteria will be published beforehand. Where judging involves subjective assessment, an independent judge, or a panel including an independent member, will judge the entries.
    • Public-vote competitions: the voting period, voting limits, counting method, tie-break procedure and treatment of fraudulent votes will be published before entry opens.

We will not switch between these methods after launch simply because a different method becomes more convenient.

  13. The winner will be notified by the method and within the timeframe stated in the individual promotion’s details. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within the published claim period, BFB may award it to a replacement selected using the original selection method.

Unless clearly stated otherwise before entry, the claim period is seven days from notification. Time-sensitive prizes may have a shorter period, which will be highlighted in the promotional posts. Any different deadline for replacement winners will also be published beforehand.

We will only ask for information reasonably needed to check eligibility and deliver the prize. We will never ask for payment or card details to claim it.

  14. Blue Ferret Boarding will notify the winner when and where the prize can be collected or whether it can be delivered. The delivery method, any collection requirements and the fulfilment deadline will be stated before entry. Prizes will normally be supplied within 30 days of closing unless a different timetable is clearly advertised. Event tickets will be supplied before the event.

  15. BFB will apply the published rules fairly. If you believe an error has occurred, contact hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk and we will investigate. Nothing in these terms prevents you from making a complaint or exercising your legal rights.

  16. The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by English law. This does not remove any mandatory protections or rights to bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction that apply to you.

  17. Privacy and publicity

Hannah Wiggins trading as Blue Ferret Boarding is the controller of the personal information BFB uses to run the promotion.

We use entry details, contact information and necessary eligibility information to administer the promotion, prevent duplicate or invalid entries, contact winners, arrange prizes and address complaints. We rely on our legitimate interests in running fair promotions and demonstrating that prizes have been awarded.

Information may be handled by the email, hosting and administration service providers we use. Where a prize provider needs winner details to fulfil a prize, the individual promotion will identify that provider and explain what is shared.

Entry does not subscribe you to marketing. We will request separate permission before using a winner’s name or photograph in additional publicity, except for the limited winner information below and any entry use expressly covered by clause 8. Refusing optional publicity does not forfeit a prize.

Our separately held entry and administration records will be deleted within three months of fullfillment, unless needed for an unresolved complaint or legal obligation. Any longer retention or use of creative entries will be explained in the relevant competition details. Social platforms retain information according to their own policies.

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion or restriction of your information, or object to its use. Contact hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. Further information, including relevant service providers and any international transfers, is in https://blueferretboarding.co.uk/privacy-policy/

    Winner information

To demonstrate that prizes were awarded, BFB will make winners’ surnames and counties available on request to hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk for one month after prize fulfilment, unless another period is stated in the promotion details.

Entrants can object to disclosure or ask for less information to be released. This will not affect their entry or prize. BFB must nevertheless provide relevant winner information to the Advertising Standards Authority if challenged.

  18. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Instagram or any other Social Network. BFB administers the promotion. The platforms separately process information under their own privacy policies.

To the extent permitted by law, entrants release Facebook and Instagram from liability connected with this promotion. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Annual Calendar Photo Submissions — Terms and Conditions

We love seeing what your ferrets have been doing! Each year, Blue Ferret Boarding invites photographs for consideration in our next annual calendar.

These terms explain how to submit a photograph, how we select pictures and how we may use the photographs you share.

1. About the calendar

Blue Ferret Boarding (“BFB”) produces an annual printed calendar, which is offered for sale.

We invite photographs for the January to November pages of the following year’s calendar. Each invitation identifies the calendar year and the month being selected.

There is no December submission round. BFB supplies December’s photograph to allow time to prepare the calendar for printing before Christmas.

Contact: hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk.

2. Who can submit photographs

Submitting a photograph is free. No purchase, follow, tag or share is required.

We welcome photographers of any age and from any country, provided participation is lawful where they live.

Photographers under 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian, who must agree to these terms and the photograph-use permissions on their behalf.

Anyone using Facebook or Instagram must meet that platform’s age requirements. Younger photographers can submit by email through a parent or guardian, who should identify the photographer and manage correspondence on their behalf.

3. How to submit your photograph

You can submit through one of these methods:

  • Comment with your photograph on the relevant weekly calendar invitation post on BFB’s Facebook page.

  • Comment with your photograph on the corresponding weekly invitation post on BFB’s Instagram account.

  • Email your photograph to hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk, identifying the calendar month and the date of the weekly invitation.

Please include the photographer’s name and the name of the ferret or ferrets pictured.

You may submit one photograph per person per weekly invitation, across Facebook, Instagram and email combined.

The Facebook and Instagram posts for the same week are a single submission opportunity. Please use either Facebook, Instagram or email for that week—not more than one method.

There are four or five weekly submission opportunities per month, depending on the number of weekly invitation posts published. This allows a maximum of four or five photographs per person for that month across all submission methods combined.

Duplicate submissions do not create additional opportunities for selection.

Each monthly invitation will state the submission deadline and expected announcement date. All times are UK time. Photographs received after the deadline will not be considered for that monthly selection.

4. Your own photographs only — no AI images

You must have taken the photograph yourself and own its copyright.

Owning the ferret pictured does not give you ownership of a photograph taken by someone else. Please do not submit photographs copied from websites, social media or another photographer, even if you have permission to share them.

AI-generated pictures are not accepted. This includes fully generated images and photographs with subjects, objects or backgrounds added or replaced using generative AI.

Ordinary photographic adjustments, such as cropping, exposure correction, colour correction and sharpening, are permitted, provided the image remains a genuine photograph you took.

BFB may request the original file to check authenticity.

You must have any necessary permission from identifiable people pictured, including permission from a parent or guardian where a child appears.

Animals must not be harmed, distressed or placed in unsafe situations for a photograph.

5. How photographs are selected

BFB’s owner personally selects the photographs for the calendar, considering:

  • Image quality and suitability for printing;

  • Colour;

  • Composition;

  • Seasonal relevance to the month; and

  • How the photograph contributes to a balanced and varied calendar overall.

Selection is an editorial choice based on these considerations. Likes, reactions and shares do not determine which photograph is chosen.

We select one photograph for each monthly page from January to November. Submitting a photograph does not guarantee publication in the calendar.

The chosen photograph will appear alongside the photographer’s name and the name of the ferret or ferrets pictured. There is no payment, complimentary calendar or other reward for contributing.

Publication is subject to confirmation, the necessary permissions and receipt of a suitable original image file.

6. Announcements, confirmation and print quality

We announce the chosen photograph in posts on both BFB’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

We cannot guarantee that contributors can be tagged or will receive a notification. Contributors are responsible for checking the announcement posts.

If your photograph is chosen, you must email hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk to confirm within four weeks of the announcement. The announcement will state the exact confirmation deadline.

The original, full-resolution photograph must be supplied by email. A photograph posted in a comment or sent through social media messaging does not replace this requirement.

Meta compresses uploaded images, which can reduce their quality. Please keep your original file and avoid sending screenshots or copies downloaded from Facebook or Instagram.

As a simple check, your photograph should stay clear rather than look blocky or pixelated when you zoom in. BFB will also assess its resolution, sharpness and suitability at the intended print size.

If the file is unsuitable, we will request a higher-quality version of the same photograph and give a clear deadline for supplying it.

Print quality is essential. BFB reserves the right to choose another photograph if:

  • The contributor does not confirm within four weeks;

  • The required original file is not supplied by the stated deadline; or

  • The photograph is unsuitable for printing and a suitable higher-quality version is not supplied following our request.

In these circumstances, BFB will select the next suitable photograph using the considerations in section 5. The same announcement and confirmation process will apply, including four weeks for the replacement contributor to confirm.

7. Copyright and permission to use photographs

You keep the copyright to your photograph.

By submitting, you give BFB non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to share and reproduce your photograph on our website and social media, including general BFB promotional posts, calendar updates and future invitations for photographs.

This permission applies to all submitted photographs, whether or not they are selected for the calendar. These agreed website and social media uses may continue after the relevant submission round has ended.

If your photograph is selected, you also give BFB permission to reproduce it in the printed calendar for which it was chosen, which will be offered for sale, and in advertising and promotional material for that calendar.

BFB may crop, resize and make minor colour or brightness adjustments to suit the layout or prepare the photograph for printing. Photographs may be supplied to service providers, such as our designer or printer, solely to carry out these agreed uses.

We will credit the photographer wherever reasonably practical on our website and social media. Photographs selected for the calendar will be credited alongside the ferret’s name.

No photographic fee or royalties are payable for these agreed uses.

This permission does not transfer ownership of your photograph or authorise its use on unrelated merchandise or its sale as a standalone image. BFB will seek separate permission for uses outside the scope described above.

8. Personal information and mailing lists

BFB will use contributors’ information to manage submissions, confirm permissions, communicate about selected photographs and arrange the agreed publication and use of images.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with BFB’s Privacy Policy. Email addresses will not be published.

For younger photographers, BFB will agree an appropriate public credit with their parent or guardian.

Submitting a photograph does not subscribe you to marketing emails. Joining the calendar-only mailing list is optional and does not affect photo selection.

9. Facebook and Instagram

BFB’s calendar photo submissions are not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook or Instagram.

Please direct questions about submissions or the calendar to BFB at hello@BlueFerretBoarding.co.uk.
