Well, We do!! All of our ferrets here at BFB are microchipped but why should you chip yours?
Well there are two main reasons: The first being for the reason of safety and well being of your fertle.
If your loved liquid furball were to get out and get lost (and we all know how nosey they can be), microchipping is good way of getting your ferret back, as vets SHOULD, and will if asked, scan for a microchip, as will all reputable Rescues. As long as the database details are kept up to date you are more likely to be reunited.
But my ferrets are indoor ferrets we hear you cry! And yes, loads of ferrets are indoor pets – but that, in our view, is even more reason to have the little worms chipped. If they escape into the fresh air having never laid out a scent map, how will they find their way home again? In that situation they might go into survival mode, never to be see again
The second reason for microchipping comes down to disputes over ownership, especially where a ferret has been found and the finder has kept the ferret or passed it on to new owners. While microchipping itself is not a legal form of ownership, chipping along with vet bills and similar paperwork would certainly help in any dispute over ownership, to help stop you being parted from your carpet shark, or to help you be reunited with your best buddy.
