Mustelamania 2025: the family day out you didn’t know you needed

Ferrets aren’t just for ‘farents’. They’re clever, sociable, cat-dog energy comedians, and we want the whole community to meet them. So this October we’re throwing open the doors and inviting families, friends and the ferret-curious to our second Mustelamania 2025.

When and where: Sunday 5 October 2025, 10:00–16:00
Venue: Crook Community Centre, Durham (UK)
Tickets: https://bfb_mustelamania2025.eventbrite.co.uk/

Why come if you don’t own a ferret?

Because you’ll leave grinning. Promise. Mustelamania is designed for first-timers and families as much as seasoned fuzz-fans. You’ll get to:

• Meet the ferrets (proper handlers on hand, welfare-first)
• Try a supervised ferret walk and see how sociable and curious they are
• Watch races and friendly competitions (yes, chaos, but wholesome chaos)
• Catch myth-busting talks and demos on care, behaviour and enrichment
• Browse our One-Stop Ferret Shop (toys, harnesses, treats, tees and mugs)
• Park little artists in the fully supervised Kids’ Corner with colour-in designs by Kyle, plus our giant community doodle banner that returns every year
• Join the seasonal fun: Halloween fancy-dress (for humans!) and Best-Dressed Ferret Cage (decorate the enclosure, not the fertles)

It’s hands-on, friendly and utterly welcoming, whether you arrive ferret-nervous or ferret-nosy.

“Aren’t ferrets bitey/smelly/unsociable?”

• Bitey? Like any pet, training and calm handling matter. Our team will show you how we read body language and keep interactions positive.
• Whiffy? Healthy ferrets kept clean don’t honk. You’ll meet well-cared-for fertles and learn easy husbandry wins. ‘Whole’ ferrets male and female do have a natural musk – but hey who has ever had a wet dog smell of roses?
• Unsociable? They’re naturally inquisitive and thrive on enrichment. Watch them problem-solve, play and happily greet new people when set up right.

Come see the reality, not the rumours.

Low-waste by design (so you can feel good while you’re having fun)

• Real mugs over paper cups wherever possible
• FSC wooden cutlery and cardboard plates/bowls, composted where we can
• Reusable tubs instead of cling film; last year’s foil trays washed and reused
• Clear recycling points on site
• Reusable signage printed on recycled stock with vegetable-based inks

Bring a reusable mug/water bottle and a tote if you can. Because small swaps add up to a big impact. ♻️

Mustelamania 2025 is perfect for…

• Kids and curious adults who want a gentle, supervised introduction to ferrets
• Families looking for a brilliant local day out with heaps to do
• Anyone who loves animals and wants to learn something new (and meet lovely people)

Plan your day

• Time: Drop in any time 10:00–16:00 (activities run throughout)
• Where: Crook Community Centre, Durham
• Tickets: https://bfb_mustelamania2025.eventbrite.co.uk/
• Handy extras: Bring a reusable mug and bottle, tote bag, comfy shoes, curiosity

Come for the whiskers, stay for the warm-and-welcoming chaos. Whether you’re seven or seventy, you’ll find something to love, and you might even leave a little bit ferret-besotted. See you at Mustelamania 2025! 💙
