Mustelamania 25 is nearly here – Sunday 5th October 2025 – and while it’s a smidge early for Halloween, we’re absolutely leaning into the cosy-spooky vibes. As last year, it’s a jamboree, and this year we’re running two friendly competitions:
• Best dressed ferret cage (decorate the cage/pen – not the ferrets, please!)
• Best fancy-dressed human (come as cute, creepy, or gloriously daft as you like)
Book your spot here: https://bfb_mustelamania2025.eventbrite.co.uk/
Keeping Halloween low-waste (our way)
We love a seasonal flourish, but we don’t love throwaway tat. So we:
• Reuse the community centre’s mugs (no paper cups if we can help it)
• Choose FSC wooden cutlery and cardboard plates/bowls, composting where possible
• Wash and store decorations from year to year (we kept last year’s and they’re back out again!)
• Swap cling film for reusable tubs behind the scenes
• Provide clearly labelled recycling bins on the day
Using something once and binning it? That’s the kind of consumerism we’re dodging. Let’s make Halloween about creativity, not landfill.
(Side note from Hannah: I remember when pumpkins weren’t a thing in Britain and we carved swedes/turnips with a tealight! Proper old-school spooky. 👻)

How to enter the competitions
Best Dressed Ferret Cage
Bring your travel cage/pen and dress the cage itself – think banners, backdrops and props outside of claw-reach. We’ll do a walk-round and judge early afternoon (listen for the announcement).
Best Fancy-Dressed Human
Open to everyone – farents, small humans, and ferret-curious friends. Bonus smiles for homemade or upcycled outfits.
Prizes? A sprinkle of BFB goodies and a hefty chunk of bragging rights. 🏆
Safe, thrifty, and DIY-friendly décor ideas
• Paper chains and bunting from old magazines, scrap fabric, or brown paper
• Cardboard ‘gravestones’ and pumpkin silhouettes (recycled box to the rescue)
• Toilet-roll bats and paper-plate moons (paint with water-based poster paints)
• Jam-jar lanterns with LED tealights (no real flames near fuzzies!)
• Natural touches: dried leaves, twine, little willow hoops
• Fixings: cable ties, bulldog clips, reusable string/velcro – no loose thread ends inside the cage
Safety first
• Decorate outside the cage bars or well out of nibble range
• No glitter, resin bits or small plastic charms that could be swallowed
• No candles – LED tealights only
• Keep pathways clear for water, food and snooze spots
• Supervise the chaos goblins; remove anything that becomes “taste-tested”

See you at Mulstelamania 25!
Come for the races, talks, meet-and-greet, One-Stop Ferret Shop and family fun and stay for the brilliant, low-waste Halloween creativity. Bring your tote, your best ideas, and if you’re dressing up… we can’t wait to see it.
